Living In Solana Beach

Solana Beach is one of the smallest beach towns in North County San Diego. Encompassing just 3.5 square miles, it is tucked between Del Mar and Encinitas. Known for its close proximity to the surf and sand, Solana Beach is also home to some of San Diego’s most luxurious properties. Solana Beach got its start in 1922 when Colonel Ed Fletcher purchased 201 acres and established the new town. His improvements to the area included establishing several essential businesses, a train station, and carving out a path down to the beach through the coastal bluffs (present day Fletcher Cove site). This last was a real feat of engineering and patience. A firehose was used to loosen the sand which was them moved by steam shovel and washed away down at the surf line. The project took several months, but current Solana Beach residents have Colonel Ed Fletcher to thank for their access to the ocean!
