Just over a year after completing the stunning $31 million makeover of the Lafayette Hotel, CH Projects is diving into another exciting venture—a 31-room luxury hotel in Coronado. This new spot, the Baby Grand Hotel, is already turning heads with its bold design and unique features, like an outdoor jungle and lagoon.
Located right across the street from the iconic Hotel Del Coronado, the Baby Grand is replacing the old La Avenida Inn, a 1950s-era motel that’s been torn down to make way for a two-story masterpiece. The new hotel will be packed with indoor and outdoor restaurants, bars, and surprises around every corner.
The design is all about going big. CH is transforming the old parking lot into a lush, jungle-like oasis with towering palm trees, flowering vines, and even a two-story waterfall flowing into a beachy lagoon. The old-school pool is gone, but valet parking will take its place thanks to a deal with a nearby lot.
Inside, the Baby Grand is all about over-the-top details. Think vintage hand-painted tapestries on the walls, dramatic draped ceilings, a massive Murano chandelier, and mosaic floors featuring fish and sea creatures. The guest rooms are luxurious, with clamshell headboards, mirrored minibars, and wallpaper inspired by imagined civilizations.
For those who love CH Projects’ signature hidden bars, the Baby Grand won’t disappoint. A secret sculpture opens the door to Fallen Empire, a swanky champagne, caviar, and oyster bar that promises an unforgettable experience.
Described as “accessible luxury,” the hotel will offer rooms ranging from $300 to $400 a night—pricier than some, but still more affordable than Hotel Del. With other big projects in the works, like a 60-room hotel in Little Italy, CH Projects is carving out a strong presence in the hospitality world.
Coronado locals and visitors alike are about to get a fresh new way to experience the island’s charm. The Baby Grand is set to become a must-see destination where history, creativity, and luxury collide. Stay tuned!
