Buon Cibo Italian Specialties Coming to Scripps Ranch: A Taste of Italy in Your Neighborhood

One of the minds behind Little Italy’s popular RoVino Restaurant + Bar is bringing something new and exciting to Scripps Ranch! Tom Tarantino, one of the founders, is branching out to launch Buon Cibo Italian Specialties—an Italian deli, specialty market, bar, and eatery in the brand-new Livia living complex.

Back in 2016, Tom Tarantino, along with Antonia Buono and Vincenzo Bruno, opened RoVino in San Diego’s Little Italy. They followed up in 2019 with Rovino The Foodery in East Village, though they closed that chapter in 2023. Now, Tom is going solo with Buon Cibo, which translates to “good food” in Italian. The focus? Bringing authentic Italian flavors and easy-to-take-home meals right to Scripps Ranch. Their motto, “Eat Like An Italian,” sums up their mission to deliver a true taste of Italy.

“We’re so excited to share the flavors of Italy—especially from my family’s hometown of Porticello, Sicily—with the Scripps Ranch community,” says Tom. “Buon Cibo is all about celebrating Italian food, with everything from imported goodies to fresh house-made dishes.”

Buon Cibo will offer an amazing lineup: think delicious Italian sandwiches, salads, ready-to-eat meals, artisan breads, desserts, specialty ravioli, and a hand-picked selection of imported meats, cheeses, and wines. They’re also launching a “Gourmet Italian Meal Plan,” where for $85 you can get seven artisanal dishes, perfect for busy families and professionals who want a high-quality, no-fuss dinner. Plus, the menu changes weekly to keep things fresh and seasonal!

Tom’s connection to San Diego runs deep, with family roots tracing back 30 years. His grandfathers, both from Porticello, Sicily, settled here and became fishermen during the peak of San Diego’s fishing industry.

Buon Cibo Italian Specialties is set to open in early 2025 at 10380 Spring Canyon Road, Scripps Ranch, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to the neighborhood! We’ll keep you updated with all the latest news, but in the meantime, you can also visit buoncibosd.com for more info.
