Another July, another epic invasion—of the pop culture kind.
Comic-Con International 2025 wrapped up this past weekend in San Diego, drawing more than 135,000 fans to the Gaslamp for four packed days of cosplay, collectibles, and unforgettable moments. And while the capes and lightsabers were flying high, some major studios sat this one out—leaving room for unexpected stars to shine.
Who Showed Up (and Who Didn’t)
This year’s biggest surprise? Marvel and DC both skipped out on unveiling major updates to their cinematic universes. So, no teases for the next Avengers or Superman sequel. But don’t worry—plenty of other fandoms stepped up.
- George Lucas made his first-ever Comic-Con appearance (!), previewing the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opening in L.A. next year. Yes, the actual creator of Star Wars was in San Diego.
- Fans got a first look at “Predator: Badlands”, with star Elle Fanning taking the Hall H stage.
- FX brought the cast of “Alien: Earth”, and outside the convention center, fans lined up for a night mission on a full-size replica spacecraft—complete with Xenomorph scares.
- Marvel did offer a little something for the fans: a “Fantastic Four: First Steps” attraction, teasing their next reboot of the classic superhero team.
The Costumes Were Wild (As Always)
From elaborate Zelda cosplay to mashups like “Barbie Jedi” and “Spider-Mario,” the creativity was off the charts. First-time attendees were wide-eyed and buzzing with excitement. ABC 10News’ Adam Campos chatted with fans outside the Convention Center—many saying Comic-Con had been a bucket-list event for years.
And with over 460,000 square feet of exhibitor space, there was something for everyone—from exclusive collectibles to interactive Lego builds, Paramount sneak peeks, and of course, a massive presence from Star Wars and Nickelodeon.

Comic-Con = Cash-Con?
Comic-Con isn't just a win for fans—it's a huge boost for San Diego’s local economy. More than $160 million is expected to be pumped into the city over the course of the week.
- At Hasta Mañana Cantina, staff were serving up tacos and taquitos nonstop. Chef Kevin Templeton said they’re aiming for $50,000 in sales over the weekend alone.
- Street vendors selling everything from sculptures to superhero-themed hats also saw a big bump. One vendor said it best: “Comic-Con is amazing for business.”
- Even pedicab drivers couldn’t keep up with the demand—though they weren’t complaining.
And Comic-Con isn’t just about sales. Nonprofits got love too, like Homeless Veterans San Diego, with passersby donating food, clothes, and money.
Final Thoughts
Even with some superhero heavyweights sitting the bench this year, Comic-Con 2025 delivered big time. Between George Lucas, a new Predator movie, interactive Xenomorph missions, and a flood of support for local businesses and causes—it was a weekend to remember.
Only 361 days until the next one. But who's counting?
