Dinosaurs Have Taken Over the Coast!

If your weekend plans don’t include pizza, ocean views, and roaring dinosaurs, you might want to rethink your calendar. Until May 5, the Camp Store at South Carlsbad State Beach has transformed into a prehistoric playground with Jurassic Beach—an animatronic dinosaur experience that’s as entertaining as it is unexpected.

Set against a backdrop of crashing waves and golden sunsets, this free exhibit features eight life-sized dinosaurs, including favorites like T-Rex, Triceratops, Velociraptor, and even a Loch Ness-style Plesiosaurus. They move, they roar, and they’ve completely taken over the beachfront hangout in the best way. Placards at each dino give fun facts, and there are even dino egg photo ops for the perfect Instagram shot.

And while the dinos are the stars, the Camp Store’s food and vibe are no sideshow. Grab a seat by the fire pit (or reserve one to skip the scramble) and dive into crispy Surfsquatch Pizza, truffle fries, and cold craft beers on tap. Whether you’re chasing toddlers through the dino zone or sipping a seltzer with friends as the sun sets, Jurassic Beach makes for an epic afternoon.

Don’t miss the little nature museum near the campground, where rangers connect the dots between ancient dinosaurs and the modern-day pelicans flying overhead. It’s educational and a blast for kids.
