Construction Begins on 56 Freeway Widening

Construction Crews have begun work on a $23 million project, which will see the construction of new HOV lanes extending from El Camino Real to just before Carmel Valley Road, initially taking place at night to prepare the site, and then shifting to a daytime schedule from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Despite the extensive work, minimal lane closures are anticipated throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed by the summer of 2025. Additionally, Caltrans has outlined future plans to enhance connectivity in the area by creating a direct link from westbound Route 56 to northbound I-5, further improving traffic flow and accessibility.

Some locals say they should be expanding the entire 56 freeway with standard lanes as they main issue with the 56 freeway is the numerous bottle necks with we have throughout the 10 mile stretch. Unfortunetly we will be only getting a 3.6 miles of a carpool lane. This should help eleaviate some traffic I hear it will not be enough to fix the problem.
